REGIONS: Urban and Rural Population
In Oregon, as well as in the nation, there has been a trend of migration from rural to urban areas. Many young adults raised in rural areas move to where there are more job opportunities or to attend college, and retirees need to be located close to adequate health care services. A higher share of newcomers to Oregon also settle in more urbanized areas to be close to jobs and services. Cutbacks in logging, which was once a significantly greater part of Oregon's rural economy, has further fueled the increasing urban share of total population.
