Place of Birth: Oregon Residents - Place of Birth
Every decennial census from 1850 to 2000 included questions about each person’s state or country of birth. Similar questions are now included in the American Community Survey.
This chart shows that Oregon’s population has always consisted primarily of persons born outside of the state. Before 1930, fewer than two out of every five residents were native Oregon-born.
It was not until the 21st Century that Oregon natives outnumbered residents born elsewhere in the U.S., though Oregon-born are still not a majority when foreign-born residents are included.
