Place of Birth: Oregon Residents - Born in Oregon
Between 1910 and 1960, the share of Oregon’s population born in Oregon increased from about 34 percent to 47 percent.
Since 1960, the share has remained relatively stable, within the range of 44 to 48 percent.
In 2014, a majority of Oregon residents under age 25 were born in the state, but only 35 percent of those age 25 and older were Oregon-born.
Although periods of large in-migration such as the 1970s and 1990s can result in a decline in the Oregon-born share, in-migrants include native Oregonians who moved outside of the state and then returned.
In 2014 only eight states had a smaller share of their residents born in the state.
Oregon’s population now includes more than 1.8 million residents born in the state.
